Norwich v Coventry – three points or…..you know the rest

The phrase ‘must win’ is used an awful lot in football. However, for Norwich City this weekend it couldn’t be more appropriate. Bryan Gunn’s team – who sit in the bottom three of the Championship – face Coventry City on Saturday and it is a game they simply have to win.

The relatively disappointing home draw against Burnley will turn itself into a decent result if three points are picked up against the Sky Blues. There is also every chance that the win would move the team out of the relegation zone.

Nottingham Forest face a difficult trip to Reading and Plymouth travel to Wolves this weekend, so a win for City could well see us gain three valuable points on these teams around us.

The game against Chris Coleman’s side has been earmarked as one that Norwich need to pick points up in as well, emphasising its importance.

Coventry, Plymouth, Sheffield Wednesday and Watford all travel to Carrow Road between now and the end of the season and if Norwich are to survive, these all need to be wins.

Especially when you presume that the football odds expect nothing other than a couple of draws to be picked up on the road. Relatively difficult trips to QPR and Blackpool follow the Coventry game, so going into these on the back of a win is vital.

There is no way it will be easy though as Coventry seem to have hit a decent run of form in recent weeks. In their last three Championship games, they have drawn with Burnley and beaten automatic promotion hopefuls Wolves and Birmingham.

Considering that they are sitting comfortably in mid-table though, the game should mean a lot more to the Norwich squad. This is the sort of game that could decide our fate.

The fans need to get behind the team; the players need to believe in themselves and most importantly the victory needs to be achieved. Should it be a draw or a defeat, trips to Yeovil Town and Bristol Rovers will edge closer and closer.

Come on boys; try not to put a dampener on my weekend for once.

  1. I’ve given up all hope to be honest mate.

We’re simply not playing with the heart and pasion that some of the other teams around us are.

It will take a huge change of fortune to turn our season around, but personally i’m already preparing myself mentally for trips to Yeovil. Infact, i’m almost looking forward to it.
