Rooney’s Championship football preview

It’s that time again for us to look ahead to another set of Championship fixtures. With Norwich struggling to string any sort of results together, discussing how teams from English football’s second tier are going to get on wouldn’t normally be that enjoyable. However, we have some important football betting to look forward to!

Swansea v Birmingham – The Welsh side looked like a decent outfit against us last week and they will be a tough test for Brum in tonight’s fixture. The away side need the win though to close the gap on Wolves at the top. 1-2

Burnley v Doncaster – This should be a home banker really, but Doncaster will be encouraged by their win against Ipswich last week. Burnley just refuse to stop winning though – am I the only one who finds this annoying? 2-0

Charlton v Sheffield United – After seven games without a win, Alan Pardew is very much under pressure at the Valley. Sheffield United on the other hand will be looking to consolidate a play-off place. 1-1

Crystal Palace v Bristol City – Palace are probably the most inconsistent team in the league as they can’t seem to string two wins together. Bristol City on the other hand need a win to keep in touch with the top six. Tough one. 2-2

Ipswich v Derby – I have a theory that Ipswich are actually as bad as we are, they have just gone on a decent run of late. After losing to Doncaster last week, I think Derby – who have one defeat in seven – will nick the points. 0-1

Nottingham Forest v Norwich – Do I have to? The fact that this game is live on TV just exaggerates my view that we are going to get dumped. Forest haven’t won at home since August…..Enter Norwich! 3-0

Plymouth v Cardiff – The home side seem to be settling comfortably inside the top ten and the face a Cardiff side who really fancy their chances of promotion this season. They have lost two of their last three though. 2-3

Preston v Barnsley – Not the most glamorous tie of the weekend it has to be said. However, both teams need the points. Preston to get back in touch with the play-offs and Barnsley to continue their recent revival. 0-0

Reading v Southampton – Reading are still my tip to win this league and they should show why with a thumping win over Southampton who have lost their last two. Not much time left for Jan Poortvliet I imagine. 4-0

Sheffield Wednesday v Coventry – It’s the battle of the mid-table teams in Sheffield as both teams look to get the points to ensure they are looking ahead, not over their shoulders, in the coming weeks. 1-0

Watford v QPR – Paulo Sousa takes charge of his first game as QPR boss as his team look to force their way back into the top six. Watford are in desperate need of the points as they sit in the relegation zone at present. Could be a good game this one. 3-3

Wolves v Blackpool – Finally, it is top of the table Wolves against comfortably mid-table Blackpool. The football odds will be heavily favouring a home win, but for some reason I fancy a cheeky football bet on a draw. 1-1

  1. Wow, I came here via the Mirror’s link to your Jeff Stelling clip (great btw) and find this prediction. One correct result and no perfect scores, you have to admit that it pretty funny. Does this say anything about the Championship? I thought my team, Saints, were likely to get beat, turns out that they took Reading to the cleaners.
