Mansfield owner attacked

Around a month ago I wrote a post called “Football clubs and the fear of failure“, about why football clubs failed.

I mentioned the plight of Mansfield Town, who were held up as an example of a properly run club who only spent what they had, and the result was almost certain relelgation to the Blue Square Premier.

Yesterday somebody took it upon themselves to attack owner Keith Haslam following the Stags’ defeat to Rotherham.

We’ve had a hell of an up and down season at Carrow Road, but I’d like to think that no matter how bad things got we wouldn’t resort to this sort of behaviour.

  1. Reply to ‘The Guru’ Mansfield held up as a club who only spent what they had???
Keith Haslam has invested nothing and taken out millions from our club http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2005/dec/07/mansfield
resulting in almost certain relegation out of the Football League – he can now set about closing the club to sell its main asset, Field Mill. I am disappointed that our plight has been ignored by the ‘ I’m alright Jack’ attitude of Premiership and other League clubs. This is going to happen to more and more clubs – despite great efforts by Stags fans – we have been well and truly shafted!

  2. In relation to your post above, i am not one to go round slating people, i’m 18 and took my younger brother and cousin to the Rotherham game saturday and it was the first time since i have witnessed violence at a football game. Not having a go at you here but if you were there at the match and a die hard mansfield fan like the most of the fans there saturday, i’m sure you would have been as angry as many of the supporters there at the time surrounding the directors box that seen ,as i did, Mr Haslam, yes Mansfield Town FC chairman, celebrate and shout yes and punch the air when Rotherham scored. To provoke fans even more at Field Mill, at the end of the game with everybody knowing of other results not going our way at the end of full time, Mr Haslam took it in his heart to stand laughing, smiling and clapping. So i feel he deserves everything he gets, and he needs to be out of the club a.s.a.p, I dont think you are aware of the full story at Mansfield as the list goes on and on of the things that Keith Haslam has done to ruin Mansfield Town.
