With the big game less than a week away I’m going to spend a little bit of time looking at a few of the key battles for Sunday’s game, starting with the two most experienced derby players – Darren Huckerby and Fabian Wilnis.
Both have been in and out of their respective sides this season, but if they play (Wilnis at right back and Huckerby on left wing) it will see two fan-favourites going head to head.
The Tractor Boy’s Dutch defender has been at Portman Road since 1999 and has long established himself as a fan favourite with the Ipswich faithful.
If memory serves the Town song about Wilnis goes something like…
Fabian Wilnis is a blue, is a blue, is a blue. Fabian Wilnis is a blue, he hates Norwich.
…which is nice, as we don’t particularly like him either.
Huckerby joined the Canaries part-way through the 2003/04 Division One Championship winning campaign and has won the Player of the Season award twice as well as being short-listed for City’s Greatest Ever XI.
Both players are out of contract at the end of the season so it is possible that the game at Portman Road will be both players’ final taste of East Anglian Derby action.
