Lessons Learned

What we have learned this weekend – 12th/13th Jan 08

Alan ShearerNobody wants the Newcastle job. Since sacking Sam Allardyce managers have been queueing up to turn the job down. First Shearer and now Harry Redknapp have ruled themselves out of the running, although Redknapp seems to be pushing Shearer back into the race.

Nicolas Anelka is the most expensive player in world football. After joining Chelsea for £15m he has racked up a combined transfer fee in excess of £85m.

Paul Robinson’s time is up. After apparently having a hissy fit when he was left of Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the week, the former(?) England keeper was again left on the bench this weekend.

Norwich can score more than once in a game. For the first time in just over a month City managed to score more than once in a 3-1 victory at Barnsley.

John Terry wants to stay as England captain. I know, I would have thought that was pretty obvious but I had to include it, simply because Sky Sports saw fit to report it. Genius.

Jose Mourinho wants the Liverpool job. It was reported today that yep, Jose wants the Anfield job. Oh no hang on a minute, no he doesn’t.
