At least we’re in the hat

Jamie CuretonThat’s pretty much the only positive that could be taken from yesterday’s game against Bury.

My word we were lucky today. Missing an open goal after 40 seconds wasn’t exactly the best way to start the game and we created enough chances in the first five minutes alone to put Bury to the sword.

The starting line-up implied an attacking 3-5-2 formation, so come kick-off it was a bit baffling to see Darel Russell at right back.

With Ched Evans still at Manchester City Chris Martin was given an unexpected start, and on this showing I don’t think we’ll be seeing him again any time soon.

There was no room on the bench for Chris Brown (rumored to be off to Preston in today’s papers) or David Strihavka (how bad must he be in training?), but there was a seat for Ryan Jarvis, back from his loan spell at Kilmarnock.

So onto the game itself. I don’t really want to dwell on it. It was pretty dire. I took a friend with me who hadn’t been to see Norwich before, and I might have to try pretty hard to get him to go again!

There was no urgency, not enough movement, no creativity and we looked ridiculously predictable and sluggish.

The longer the game went on the less likely City looked like scoring, the more confident Bury became, but to concede a goal from a set piece again, and with not one but two unmarked at the back post it unforgivable.

Ginger Pele popped up with the equaliser, and if Hucks had scored his one on one with a couple of minutes left then we would have well and truly gotten away with it.

The long and the short of it is we’re still in the hat so let’s see who we’ve got next – assuming we can get a result at Gigg Lane of course.

  1. As the friend taken along I can confirm that Norwich were truly diabolical. Awful.

    Nice pasties though.
