When I was a lad Liverpool ruled the world, as did nasty flecked-print on football shirts. I suspect this classy little number was the inspiration for the bird-poo kit, so for that reason alone it deserves a mention in my sporadic recollection of classic kits.
If memory serves this was the strip the Reds wore when they last won the league, so maybe it (and it’s even nicer grey/red sister) holds a special place in many a Scouser’s heart. Or maybe not.
We, Liverpool, had some shockers. The one that replaced this was the worst though with 3 thick stripes underneath each arm.
I remember being in a club when this first came out and my mate was wearing it. Jan Molby was sitting near us and he asked if that was the new kit, he didn’t look that impressed.
I only wear adidas trainers because I’m nostalgic for the early 80’s but there football kits are pretty poor.

the grey/red shirt is the 08/09 away kit and its one of my favourites as it was then .. wonder if we will win the league again then????? joke but ye never know got to happen sometime.
What a beauty! This was my first Liverpool kit and you can imagine the pride for an eleven year old lad wearing the jersey which won us the league too many years ago!
