Chris Martin: SuperChav?

6 05 2008

From the EDP:

Teenage Norwich City striker Chris Martin has been banned from nearly every pub in Waveney after complaints about his behaviour.

The 19-year-old is not allowed to enter any of the 68 pubs in Beccles, Bungay, Halesworth and Southwold after being barred from one in his home town of Beccles. The EDP understands that the ban relates to a fight outside the White Horse pub in New Market, Beccles, earlier this year, although the footballer may not have been directly involved.

Under the town’s Nightsafe pub watch scheme, being banned from one means being banned from all those who are members of the scheme. A ban is in place for 12 months and leads to a picture and description of the person being circulated around the pubs.

Paul Burch, from the White Horse, said: “He used to drink in here and now he is on Pub Watch.”

He said that the incident in question “allegedly” happened outside the pub.

Norwich City said it was investigating the matter and would not comment until this had happened.

Suffolk police were unable to comment but said that Mr Martin had not been arrested.

The 5ft 10in striker became a fans’ favourite towards the end of the 2006/07 season, scoring five goals in 20 games. He also scored on his debut for the England under-19s, when he came on as a late substitute in a 1-0 victory against Turkey in March 2007.

However he has found it much harder this season and has only started three league games – two since Glenn Roeder took over as Norwich manager – and has not scored. In March Mr Roeder said that Mr Martin and fellow former youth team player Michael Spillane had “had it too easy.”

“They have been told too many good things about themselves and it’s done them no good at all. They need to be a bit more hungry.”

Makes you proud doesn’t it?

As Newcastle release Peter Ramage, does 2+2 equal a new City number 5?

6 05 2008

The new central defender that the Canaries are screaming out for could have been found after Newcastle announced that 24-year old Peter Ramage is being released at the end of the current campaign.

Ramage played for the Toon Army under Glenn Roeder and was looked after in the reserves by Roeder’s assistant Lee Clark, so there is undeniably a link already there.

He’s cheap (well, free) which will keep Mr. Doncaster happy, is the right age and (according to Wikipedia at least) he is a versatile defender – and we know how much we like those.

Oh yes – he’ll do for me.

The axe falls on 9 – including Huckerby

6 05 2008

Nine players are free agents after the club announced they will not be offered new contracts for next season:

  • Darren Huckerby
  • Rossi Jarvis
  • Ryan Jarvis
  • Bally Smart
  • Patrick Bexfield
  • Andrew Cave-Brown
  • Steven Arnold
  • Matthew Halliday
  • Juan Valesco

The club have also said that they won’t be commenting further on the position of other players who are out of contract (so people like Mark Fotheringham and Gary Doherty), so I take that to mean that they want them to stay.

With all due respect eight names on that list haven’t exactly achieved an awful lot during their time with the club, but Huckerby is a different ball game entirely.

If it is true that Roeder has “known for ages” what his plans were, why weren’t we given the opportunity to give Hucks the send-off he undoubtedly deserves? It just smacks of a lack of respect as far as I’m concerned.

Neil Warnock: a confession

6 05 2008

I know I probably shouldn’t admit this, but lately I’ve found myself liking Neil Warnock more and more. Help me.
