It’s about time our “top” professionals stop talking about the need to show officials more respect, and actually start doing it.
Easter isn’t the only over-hyped and overly-commercial event occurring this weekend, as we also usher in the second Grand Slam Sunday of the season.
If there’s anyone out there who doesn’t know what “Grand Slam Sunday” is, please allow me to explain:
Grand Slam Sunday is when all of England’s “Big Four” clubs play each other on the same day, in a magnificent coincidence of the fixture computer and not at all planned around the monster that is Sky Sports.
But why the negativity? Surely the top four teams in the land playing each other in the same day is a good thing? You would be forgiven for thinking so, but it hasn’t lived up to the hype yet has it?
The ideal outcome for the neutral will be wins for Liverpool and Chelsea, thus taking leaving Liverpool still six points adrift of third-place Chelsea, but bringing the top three to within three points of each other.
My preferred outcome is wins for Liverpool and Arsenal, as out of the three teams still in the title picture I would rather have the the Gunners win it than the other two.
Unfortunately though the worst-case scenario is also probably the most likely – wins for Manchester United and Chelsea.
United have won the last four Premier League meetings between the two sides and have a far superior head-to-head record. My prediction: Man Utd 2 Liverpool 1.
Arsenal have only won one of their last eleven meetings with Chelsea in all competitions, who have not lost a Premier League game at Stamford Bridge since…well, ages ago. My prediction: Chelsea 1 Arsenal 0.
