The club have announced the nominations for the Greatest Ever XI.
The nominations jury consisting of Norwich Evening News sports writer David Cuffley, former City manager Ken Brown, Club Secretary Kevan Platt, Kevin Piper of Anglia TV and chaired by Radio 5 Live’s Pat Murphy selected the following players for nomination:
Goalkeepers: Robert Green, Bryan Gunn, Kevin Keelan, Ken Nethercott, Chris Woods.
Full-backs: Ron Ashman, Mark Bowen, Ian Culverhouse, Adam Drury, Joe Hannah, Roy McCrohan, Bernard Robinson.
Centre-backs: Steve Bruce, Barry Butler, Ian Butterworth, Duncan Forbes, Malky Mackay, David Stringer, Dave Watson.
Midfielders: Tommy Bryceland, Ian Crook, Jimmy Hill, Martin O’Neill, Graham Paddon, Martin Peters, Michael Phelan, Colin Suggett.
Wingers: Mark Barham, Bobby Brennan, Darren Eadie, Ken Foggo, Ruel Fox, Johnny Gavin, Dale Gordon, Darren Huckerby.
Forwards: Terry Allcock, Mike Channon, Hugh Curran, Ron Davies, John Deehan, Robert Fleck, Ted MacDougall, Iwan Roberts, Chris Sutton.
Managers: John Bond, Ken Brown, Archie Macaulay, Tom Parker, Ron Saunders, Dave Stringer, Mike Walker, Nigel Worthington.
For my eleven, I thought it only fair that I limit my selections to players I am familiar with, so anyone who played for the Canaries prior to around 1988 will mostly miss out. I’ve made a couple of exceptions in the case of Keelan and Paddon, as I’ve seen enough of them on video to (I think) make a fair call.
My Eleven: Keelan Bowen, Culverhouse, Watson, Mackay, Crook, Paddon, Eadie, Huckerby, Fleck, Roberts.
Manager: Mike Walker. Probably not the most popular choice but I’ve had to go with the manager who has been most successful during my lifetime, and in my opinion that has to be Walker.
