Champions League Last 16 Predictions: Wednesday’s games

5 03 2008

UEFA Champions League Trophy

I was 50/50 last night, so let’s see how I get on tonight…

Chelsea V Olympiakos. Chelsea were very disappointed with last week’s goalless draw in Greece, and I just think they’ll be too strong tonight. With or without Petr Cech. My prediction: Chelsea 2 Olympiakos 1.

FC Porto V Schalke 04. Schalke take a slender 1-0 to Portugal, and have never made the quarter-finals of Europe’s premier club competition. My prediction: Porto 2 Schalke 0.

Real Madrid V Roma. Roma lead 2-1 from the first leg but will be underdogs in Spain. My prediction: Real Madrid 3 Roma 1.

UPDATE:

Didn’t do very well did I? The only side to progress as I predicted were Chelsea, and that was hardly rocket science was it? Oh well, I’m off to lick my wounds…

Last night’s predictions – how did I get on?

5 03 2008

So how did I get on with last night’s predictions?

I thought Milan would beat Arsenal 1-0, so got that one very wrong (I’m pleased to say). Went for Barcelona 2 Celtic 0, so got the score wrong but the right result (although to be fair that wasn’t really a hard one).

I predicted Manchester United would beat Lyon 2-1 which technically they did on aggregate so I’m claiming that one, and I predicted Sevilla 1 Fenerbahce 0 that would have seen the Spaniards through, which I got completely wrong.

The biggest game of the night was undoubtedly at Vicarage Road where the Canaries, as predicted by yours truly, picked up a 1-1 draw.

Overall a 3-2 win for me, which I’ll take thank you very much. I’ll be back with predictions for tonight’s games later.
