£400k for Lewis is big money – and good business

Joe LewisThere can be no doubt about that.

At 20 Big Joe is at an age where he needs to be thinking about first team football. With David Marshall and Matty Gilks ahead of him in the pecking order first team opportunities at the club were always going to be limited.

Add Steve Arnold and England Youth internationals Declan Rudd and Jed Steer to the mix and City are blessed with (potentially) a number of good quality goalkeepers which should see us through for years to come.

Potential has always been the buzz-word around Lewis. Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson has his own take on him:

“To get the calibre of player I’m after you sometimes need to spend big money. It’s a big fee, but I believe it’s a fair one because we would be getting one of the best young goalkeepers in the country.”

One of the best young goalkeepers in the country. When you think of it like that you almost think Posh are getting a steal, but I can almost guarantee there won’t be any other Championship clubs who will sell their third choice goalkeeper for just shy of half a million pounds this transfer window.

Throw in that sell-on clause (of say 15% for argument’s sake), then City have got, potentially, a cracking deal.
